Donald Leroy Varney, 62, of Payson, Ariz., died in Payson Jan. 17, 2005. He was born Nov. 22, 1942 in Phoenix.
Mr. Varney was raised in Glendale, Ariz. on PW Dairy, which was a family farm. He moved to Buckeye in 1964 to start his own dairy. Then, in 1988, he moved to Roswell, N.M. to start and found Breakaway Dairy. He eventually sold the dairy and retired to Payson in August 2001, where he enjoyed golfing and traveling. He was a member of the United Dairy Association of which he was also on the board, a board member of Mid Am Dairy Association, Lions and Elk clubs member, 4-H leader, and a Little League coach.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years (Feb. 14, 1986) Clemence M.C. Varney; daughters, Kimberly (Rick) King, Donna (Randy) Langley, Tracey Adams; mother, Nora Varney; sister, Judy (Fred); aunt, Elizabeth (Chuck) White, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, M.R. Varney; and his son, Michael D. Varney.
There was a graveside service Jan. 20 at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park in Payson.
