'Saturday Night' Celebrity Dinner A Success

Guests of the fourth annual celebrity dinner were rolling in the aisles at the antics of Payson's own version of the "Saturday Night Live" cast.

"It's always a little nerve racking to put on a fund-raising event," said Judy Baker, executive director of the Mogollon Health Alliance. "Rick Stockman, owner of Fargo's Steakhouse, made our lives so easy."

Jake and Elwood Blues (Will E. Dietz and Robert Higginbotham) performed "Soul Man" for an appreciative crowd.

Local residents donned wigs and shaved beards to fit their characters, including a hilarious performance by town manager Fred Carpenter in drag as "The Church Lady."

"We had the Spartan Cheerleaders, the Samurai Warrior, the Blues Brothers, Hanz and Franz, we even had Roseanne Roseannadanna," Baker said.

Baker got in the act as Tina Fey, taking shots at several prominent residents during her version of SNL's "Weekend Update."

At the end of the evening, MHA's Don Crowley and Chris Wolf, CEO of Payson Regional Medical Center, presented an $8,000 check to Barbara Ganz for the college's nursing program.

"We are so proud of each and every one of you who supported this great cause," Baker said. "Thank you all so much."
