Fund-Raiser Offers Fish, Fellowship

The Payson High School basketball teams will host the Third Annual Longhorn Fish Fry from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. this evening in the Rim Country Middle School gymnasium.

Tickets, $5 for adults, $3 for children, and $15 for a family, are available from any basketball player or at the door.

Duke Wilbanks will do some of the food preparation at the Longhorn Fish Fry set for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 in the Rim Country Middle School gym.

Spearheaded by Duke Wilbanks, volunteers, players and coaches, the meal includes all-you-can-eat fried fish, slaw, vegetable, a roll and beverage.

Boys basketball coach Mike Loutzenheiser promises that the meal will be a lip-smacking delight.

In addition to enjoying a good meal and the opportunity for some small-town fellowship, hoop fans also can take in a basketball game.

All six Longhorn basketball teams will play the runnin' and gunnin' Chinle Wildcats tonight. Games are slated for 4 p.m. (jayvee boys and girls) 5:30 p.m. (varsity girls and freshmen) at 7 p.m. (varsity boys and freshmen) in both Wilson Dome and old PHS gymnasium.

Banned bats for ASA play

With the softball seasons just around the corner, players will soon be scouring sporting goods stores in search of all the right equipment.

Before buying a bat, however, it's best to check and see that it can be used in Amateur Softball Association of America play. It would be a shame to purchase a $400 bat, and then find out it can't be used.

A number of high-dollar, high-tech bats are outlawed in ASA and Payson Parks and Recreation Department play.

Bats that may not be used in town league games are:
