Rim country angler Tom Brown and Phil Krisher of Glendale shared $1,005 in prize money thanks to their team's runner-up finish at the BestBet Aluminum Boat bass tournament Jan. 22 at Lake Pleasant.
The duo weighed in a six-fish limit of 8.24 pounds to finish second behind the championship team of Robert Seneff and Lou Appleby of Tucson.
Brown and Krisher's catch was just .51 of a pound shy of the champions' haul.
Seneff and Appleby can credit their victory to a single fish --a 3.12-pound largemouth that turned out to be the largest caught in the tournament.
According to BestBet tournament director Tom Stiles, the winners' strategy was to fish drop-shot rigs in 10 to 20 feet on secondary points in Castle Creek.
The runner-up team fished crankbaits and drop-shot rigs on points in Cole's Bay, Stiles said.
Also representing the Rim country in the tournament were the teams of Ray Purtill and Buddy Randall, and Paul and Jake Randall.
Purtill and Buddy Randall boated 5.96 pounds and received $160 in prize money. Paul and Jake Randall, weighed in 5.06 pounds and earned $405. A total of 22 teams were awarded prizes, Stiles said.
The next BestBet Aluminum Boat tournament is scheduled for Feb. 12 at Bartlett Lake.
