At the conclusion of the campaign this month, all-star teams will be picked to represent Payson in the postseason. Other first round games pit Tuba City against Coconino (10 a.m.), Mt. Elden against Page (4 p.m.), and Flagstaff versus Winslow (7 p.m.). All opening round games will be played on the Rumsey Park field.

The winner of the tournament advances to the Little League District showdown to begin July 5 in Taylor. The champion of the district tournament is automatically awarded a berth into the state championship to be held in Gilbert.

In 2003, Payson sent its first and only district championship team to the state tournament. After winning its first two games, the team was beaten 15-1 by Paradise Valley. The squad eventually turned in a fifth-place finish setting the bar high for the Little League teams that follow.

Major and minor division all-star teams are selected at the conclusion of the regular season in a voting of team managers.

The minor league tournament, for children 9 to 10 years of age, will be held this year in Flagstaff, and begins June 27.
