Cool Off At Taylor Pool

When looking for a place to cool off, Rim country residents and visitors alike usually turn to Taylor Pool at Rumsey Park.

The brisk, calm pool is just the right break from the high-country heat that in summer can sometimes soar to near 100 degrees.

When temperatures near the century mark, a dip in Taylor Pool is the best way to cool off.

The best time for a quick dip is during open swim, which is held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, or adult lap swim from 5:30 a.m. to 6:25 a.m. weekdays. To participate in the lap swim, participants must be 18 and older.

Another popular way to beat the heat and also get in some physical conditioning is the popular adult aqua aerobics held weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:25 p.m. During the sessions, a peppy Taylor Pool lifeguard leads the participants through a jazzy aerobics routine, usually to the beat of piped-in music.

The fee for open swim and adult aerobics is $2 per day. For adult lap swim, it is $50 for the summer. After July 4, it is $25.

Other activities at Taylor Pool include swim team practices and a series of three sessions of swim lessons.

The swim team practices are weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. and a series of home meets are set for Saturdays throughout the summer. Cost to participate is $50 per child.

The swim lessons are taught from June 13 to 24, June 27 to July 8 and July 11 to July 22. Children must be at least 4 years old to participate, however there is a parent and tot class for children 3 and under. The fee is $20 per session. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For the teenagers, teen nights will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. June 8, June 22, July 6 and July 20. Each night will have a theme and lifeguards will organize games and activities for all participants. The fee is $3 per night.

This year, the pool will open May 28 and close July 27.
