Student Indicted For Attempts To Sell Cocaine

An 18-year-old Payson High School student has been indicted by a grand jury for his attempts to sell cocaine to other students, Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores said.

Salvador Anaya Sanchez was indicted on two counts of the sale of narcotic drugs. He was arraigned on June 6, said Flores.

In May, students informed Payson Police School Resource Officer Steve Montgomery that Sanchez had sold them cocaine. Narcotics officers who were already investigating Sanchez did not know he was still in high school, Payson Police Commander Don Engler said.

Four other minor students were charged with using cocaine.

Payson Police Det. Jason Hazelo said Sanchez had been the subject of an ongoing investigation and had sold drugs to a confidential informant on two different occasions in February and March.

Sanchez is scheduled back in court on a case management conference, June 13.
