Taylor Pool is proving to be the cooling break Rim country residents need when summertime temperatures reach 90-plus degrees.
Since its opening May 28, visitors have flocked to the pool in droves, taking advantage of open swim sessions from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
At midweek, Payson High School students Miles Huff and Caitlin Fruth were among the guards diligently overseeing the main pool and the adjacent children's wading pool.
In addition to open swim, splashy respites can be enjoyed during an adult lap swim from 5:30 a.m. to 6:25 a.m. weekdays. To participate in the lap swim, participants must be 18 and older.
Another popular time to beat the heat and also pick up some physical conditioning is the highly popular adult aqua aerobics held weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:25 p.m.
During the sessions, lifeguards lead the participants through a jazzy aerobics routine usually to the beat of piped-in music. The fee for open swim and adult aerobics is $2 per day. For adult lap swim it is $50 for the summer. After July 4, it is $25.
Other activities on the Taylor Pool agenda include swim team practices and a series of three sessions of swim lessons.
The swim team practices are held weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. and a series of home meets are set for Saturdays throughout the summer. Cost to participate $50 per child.
The swim lessons are taught June 13 to June 24, June 27 to July 8, and July 11 to July 22. Children must be at least 4 years old to participate, but there is a parent and tot class for children 3-years-and-under. The fee is $20 per session. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
For the teenage set, teen nights will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., June 22, July 6 and July 20. Each night will have a theme and lifeguards will organize games and activities for all participants. The fee is $3 per night.
This year, the pool is scheduled to close July 27.
