Pine Board Wrings Out Water-Saving Alternatives

The Pine-Strawberry Water Improvement District will meet Thursday to discuss seven possible solutions to alleviate the short-term water problems in Pine and Strawberry.

Those solutions will be presented when the group meets at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 16 at the Pine Community Center.

John Breninger, vice chairman of the PSWID and his Alternatives Study Committee have reviewed volumes of research and studies to come up with the recommendations.

The seven-member board had planned to discuss the findings at its meeting in May, but tabled the topic when Chairwoman Barbara Hall requested the meeting turned over to the county attorney's office for open meeting law training, Breninger said.

Among the proposed alternatives:

  • A horizontal deep well
  • Three different single deep well sites
  • Stream/storm water runoff and storage; access to Central Arizona Project allocation
  • Surface storage reservoir/ Magnolia winter supply; and
  • Blue Ridge Reservoir surface water.

The "... alternatives ... are valid," said Gary Sherlock, a PSWID board member, in an earlier article about Breninger's work for the district.
