Quilters Vie For Top Honors


More than 100 quilts were on display at the Ninth Annual Strawberry Patchers Quilt Show, held June 10 to12 at the Pine Cultural Hall.

The entries came from more than 50 Rim country quilters. The several hundred people who attended the event chose the winning quilts.


The Strawberry Patchers held their annual quilt show in conjunction with the Strawberry Festival, attracting several hundred visitors who voted for their favorites.

Gina Perkes was the big winner, taking first place in the large quilt category and second in the small quilt category. Monika Hancock and Gloria Fohr entered six quilts in the competition; Thelma Anderson entered five; Earline Eldridge, Nancy Miller and Wilma Hitterman entered four quilts apiece; and several quilters had three entries.

Second -- Gina Perkes for "Masquerade"

Third -- Debbie Stanton for "New York Neon"

Large Quilt Category

First -- Gina Perkes for "Raspberry Truffle"

Second -- Gloria Fohr for "Spirit of the Northwoods"

Third -- Karen Petry for "Reproduction Irish Chain"
