Robert M. Ely, 93, died Thursday, June 16, 2005. Mr. Ely was born April 19, 1912 in Detroit, Mich.
He grew up in Canada, owned and operated his own machine shop in California, became an Arizona Ranger in Parker, Ariz.
Mr. Ely moved to Payson in the early 1960s, where he owned and operated his commercial refrigeration business.
He was a ham radio operator. His call letters were KA7PGW.
Mr. Ely actively participated in many fund-raisers for the people and animals in our town of Payson.
He was a skilled craftsman, carpenter and volunteer for the Gila County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Ely loved to dance and excelled with every step.
Mr. Ely is survived by his longtime love and companion Kitty Lucek.
A celebration of his life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 406 E. Bonita St.
