Did you know there are a lot of Payson seniors who qualify for utility and other discounts and they don't even know it? Maybe you're one of them.
William Spangler of the Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens is a benefit specialist ready and able to help seniors and disabled people find discounts and other entitlements.
"I keep a large directory and can find just about any service they need at discounted rates," said Spangler.
Spangler started working out of the Payson Senior Center last November.
"I know what it's like being disabled," he said. "I'm aggressive trying to get these people on small or fixed incomes what they need and deserve."
Tuesday through Friday, you can find Spangler at the Payson Senior Center, 514 Main St. He's there from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. You don't have to make an appointment, you can just drop in and see him. And if you can't drive to him, he'll come to you. "I make house calls, too," he said with a smile.
Spangler said a lot of people who struggle financially don't even know they've paid into a system that, in many cases, can now help them if they're low or middle income.
"I can help them get things these people have paid for their whole lives. They're entitled to these services, and it's not welfare," he said.
"I've saved some people a great deal of money on insurance. I can often get seniors discounts on their utilities, medicine, insurance and doctor visits.
"It's definitely worth the effort to try," he added.
Spangler welcomes phone calls. He can be reached at the Payson Senior Center at (928) 474-4876, or by calling (800) 293-9393.
