Under newly appointed head coach Scott Dean, the Longhorn basketball express is steaming toward a successful summer of hoops.
In Dean's first week at the helm of the program, junior varsity and varsity teams traveled to Eagar/Springerville where they participated in the Round Valley Invitational Summer Tournament.
The varsity squad emerged from the White Mountain fray with a perfect 8-0 record whipping several of Arizona and New Mexico's finest prep teams.
The jayvee team under coach Kenny Hayes posted a 5-0 slate.
Among the teams the varsity defeated were last season's 3A state semifinalist Tuba City, longtime Payson nemesis Snowflake and homestanding Round Valley.
Others the Horns bested were New Mexico schools Dora, Capitan, Bloomfield, Socorro and Navajo Pine.
Hayes led the underclassmen to wins over Snowflake, Holbrook Tuba City, Dora and Socorro.
