Want to hear the history of the Payson Rodeo from the cowboys who were part of it? Then plan to attend the Old-time Payson Rodeo Reunion Saturday, Aug. 20, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tonto Apache gym south east of the Mazatzal Casino in Payson.
Special guests will be noted Gila County rodeo personalities Lynn and Nancy Sheppard.
Nancy Sheppard is the only woman ever to stand on a running horse and spin two ropes at the same time. She performed the trick at the Payson Rodeo in 1948. Globe native Lynn Sheppard became a professional calf roper and steer wrestler after leaving the U.S. Army in 1946 and still carries a gold card membership in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association.
The rodeo reunion will feature free food by Jack and Joyce Warter: barbecue, beans and cole slaw. There will be a live remote by Rockin' Ron Gibson of KMOG Radio.
Those attending can enjoy western music and win door prizes. They will also have the opportunity to get their "Rodeo 101" book signed by the cowboys, visit with old friends, and enjoy some old-time Payson Rodeo hospitality.
The reunion is being sponsored by Git A Rope! Publishing, Inc. and its owners, Jinx Pyle and Jayne Peace Pyle.
