Editor:

Arizona Public Service (APS) had a special use permit that has expired and would like to have the permit reissued to authorize the existing Preacher Canyon substation and aerial 69kV utility line that runs from the town of Payson to Preacher Canyon, Ariz.

The subject line segment transects locations in T 10 N, R 10 E, sec 2 and in T 11 N, R 11 E, secs 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30, G&SRM (depicted on a map available at the Payson Ranger Station). The substation is located in sec 25, T 11 N, R 11 E, G&SRM (depicted on the same map).

The Forest Service is conducting an environmental analysis prior to the re-issuance of the expired special use permit for Preacher Canyon 69kV transmission line and substation.

The permit was initially issued in 1980 and use has been authorized since that date.

If there are any concerns that you believe we should address, please provide those in writing to the Payson Ranger District, Attention Ruth Velasco, by March 18, 2005. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Ms. Velasco at (928) 474-7900.
