Experienced Postal Worker Sworn In As Pine's Postmaster

Cindy Hand, left, was formally sworn in as the Pine postmaster this week by Nancy Hertel, USPS. Hand has managed the Pine office since March.

It was an unusually busy afternoon at the Pine post office as Cindy Hand was formally sworn in as the new postmaster.

Nancy Hertel, manager of U.S. Postal Service Operations for 86 post offices in Southern Arizona, performed the swearing-in ceremony.

Several postmasters, supervisors and station managers attended the ceremony. They were: Kathleen Almendarez of Payson, Cheryl Sinigaglio of Fort Apache, Danita Keith from Pinedale, Lilli Alcorn from Greer, Patricia Young of Taylor, Martin Garcia of Tucson and John Lafreniere of Oro Valley.

Mike McManus, recently retired Pine postmaster, also attended and passed the ceremonial torch -- an inverted plunger sprouting colored tissue paper -- to Hand.

Hand officially took over the duties of Pine postmaster on March 5, her birthday. Her husband, Kelly, retired recently from the postal service after 21 years.

They are from Tucson. They have a married daughter and are expecting their first grandchild. Hand has worked a variety of positions with the postal service for 18 years.

Assisting Hand at the Pine post office are Tammy Jones, Traci Moore, Summer Tomerlin and Fran Montgomery.
