Payson Parks And Recreation Offers Summer Classes And Activities

A list of upcoming summer classes and activities provided by the Payson Parks and recreation Department. These include swim lessons, tennis lessons, summer recreation camp, acrobat and dance classes, swim team,adult lap swim, aqua aerobics, and men's and women's softball leagues.

Summer tennis and swim classes are being offered through the Payson Parks and Recreation Department.

Tennis lessons

Youth and adults of all abilities are invited to register for tennis lessons. Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday, May 31-June 16. Class times for youth ages 6-9 will be 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., youth ages 10-13 will meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and youth ages 14 and over will meet from 11 a.m. to noon. Beginner adults will meet from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and intermediate adults will meet from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Registration continues until the classes are full. The cost is $20 per person. Class sizes are limited to eight, so reserve your spot today. Participants must bring their own racket.

Summer Recreation Camp

Youth entering fifth- through ninth-grades are invited to attend our Recreation Camp. This program offers a variety of organized activities that could include basketball, sand volleyball, dodge ball, badminton, golf, tennis, softball, craft projects, etc. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday-Thursday, June 13 to July 13. The fee is $25 and includes a camp T-shirt. The schedule of camp activities will be available by Friday, May 27. Space is limited and will only be guaranteed to those who register by June 3, 2005.

Acrobat and dance classes

Youth acrobat, youth jazz/acrobat and jazz/hip hop dance classes are being offered by the Payson Parks and Recreation Department.

Swim lessons

Instructional lessons for children with varied times to accommodate the stay-at-home and working parents. The cost per session is $20. Registration and class dates are as follows:

Session A -- Registration dates are May 30 to June 10. Lessons will take place June 13 to 24. Class times are as follows:

Session B -- Registration dates are June 13 to 24. Lesson will take place June 27 to July 8. Class times are as follows:

Children must be at least 4 years old to enroll in any level of swim lessons. Parent and Tot is for children 3 and under. Swimmers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited to 20. Late sign-ups will not be accepted.

Swim team

Youth who want to compete on a competitive level may try out for our recreational swim team. Swim meet competitions will take place at Taylor Pool on Saturdays throughout the summer. Swim meets away from home will be the responsibility of each individual swimmer. Cost to participate is $50 per child. Practice times will be Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:55 a.m., May 30 to July 21. Registration is May 9-May 27. Late registration will take place from May 30-June 3 for $55 per child.

Adult lap swim

Adults 18 and older may swim laps and exercise without youth interruption and distraction. Lap swim takes place Monday-Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 6:25 a.m., May 30 -- July 27. Registration will be taken from May 10 to May 27. The fee is $50 for the entire summer. After July 4 the fee drops to $25.

Aqua aerobics

This class is available to adults 18 and over who like to stay in shape. The cost is $50 for the entire summer or pay $3 per class at the pool. After June 24, the cost will be $25 for the remainder of the summer. Classes are held May 30 -- July 27, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 6:25 p.m.. Registration begins May 2.

Men's and women's softball league

Registration for men's and women's softball will be May 11-June 8. Recreation, competitive and men's wood bat divisions will be offered as long as a minimum of four teams sign-up for each division. The fee is $275 per team. Games begin on June 20. All participants must be at least 16 years of age.
