Although members of the Payson Women's Golf Association nine-hole group have wrapped up play, their male counterparts continue to battle in a three-week turkey shoot.
Lady Niners concluded the 2005 season Oct. 27 with a Fun Day in which no competition was held.
A week earlier, the Niners locked horns in an "even holes one-half handicap" formatted fray won by Isabella Sockrider. Nancy Little was second and Sue Covert third.
In the Lady Niners club championship tournament held Oct. 6 and Oct. 13, Nancy Little emerged as champion outplaying runner-up Joanne Kirchgassner and bronze medalist Sue Stockton.
In the second round of the three-round Payson Men's Golf Association turkey shoot held Oct. 26 at Payson Golf Course, Terry Lindsey carded a 60 to take first-flight honors.
Trailing in the flight were runner-up Ed Flores (64) and third-place finisher Larry Baker (66).
Popeye Clay flexed his biceps to a 56 to take top honors in the second flight. Peter Foster was second with a 67 and Doug Talbot's 69 earned him a third-place medal.
Ward Johnson staked claim to the third flight crown, posting a 65. Don Gyde (66) was second and Don Nicholas (69) third.
Closest to the pin winners included Ed Flores, No. 2, 21 feet 6 inches; Don Castleman, No. 8, 4 feet 6 1/2 inches; Tom Mallett, No. 14, 2 feet 7 1/2 inches; Troy Neal, No. 17, 5 feet 1 inch; and Clay, No. 5, 4 feet 4 inches.
