The Payson Humane Society Chili Supper is -- like the Payson Art League Fall Show opening night -- one of the Rim Country's premier social events.

On that particular night, hundreds upon hundreds of animal lovers pack the Elks Lodge for a good feed and some outstanding socializing. The chili supper, which runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, is the shelter's biggest fund-raiser of the year.

The menu for the fund-raiser not only includes chili from Macky's Grill, but macaroni and cheese donated by Mazatzal Casino, salad from Tiny's Restaurant, salad dressing from Fargo's Steakhouse, rolls from Cucina Paradiso, crackers from the Beeline Cafe, cheese from El Rancho Mexican Restaurant, homemade cupcakes and beverages.

"The money we raise at this event is generally used for the care and feeding of the homeless animals of the Rim Country," PHS board president Barbara Brenke said. "It will not go to the building fund."

The menu not only includes chili from Macky's Grill, but also macaroni and cheese donated by Mazatzal Casino, salad from Tiny's Restaurant, salad dressing from Fargo's Steakhouse, rolls from Cucina Paradiso, crackers from the Beeline Cafe, cheese from El Rancho Mexican Restaurant, homemade cupcakes and beverages.

"The casino donated the ingredients for the macaroni and cheese, but this year we're going to cook it right at the Elks," Brenke said.

In addition to a great dinner, attendees will be able to purchase custom-decorated clay plant pots for $10 or $15. Each pot also comes with an additional prize worth $10, according to event organizer Penny McKinlock.

A silent auction is also held in conjunction with the event, as well as a 50/50 raffle and final ticket sales for the special animal quilt raffle. Items donated so far include two nights at the Arizona Biltmore Resort, two one-day passes to

Disneyland and two to Six Flags Amusement Park, a load of granite from Redi-Mix, a lube and oil from Wicks Auto Service, a shampoo and cut from The New Ewe, several haircuts from The Lemon Tree, a small dog grooming from Pampered Pet, a shampoo and conditioning from Frontier Beauty Salon, a winter car check from Auto Life Support, a massage from Payson Day Spa, photography by Terry Stevens, a one-month membership at the Payson Athletic Club, two neck-shoulder massages from Deja vu Salon, earrings from Payson Jewelers, Tonto Community Concert tickets, and gift certificates from Bashas', Country Kitchen, Roadrunner Espresso, Back to Basics, Legacy Home Furnishings, Gary Houston Pottery, Wayne's Donuts & Deli, Abigail's, Cutting Edge, Dove's Nest Computers, Ace Hardware and more.
