Being far away in Corvallis, Ore., where it always rains, I think back to those days in Strawberry when I wished just a few drops would fall. Here, the foliage is lush, the turning leaves are gorgeous -- but it rains -- and they do not have forest fires. I look forward to returning to the land of sunny skies, a little snow, a little cold weather, a little rain, and spending the evening toasty warm in front of my wood stove.
I missed an event last weekend, but fortunately it is ongoing. I apologize for missing the opening weekend of the Christmas Boutique in the Arts and Crafts Room at the Pine Community Center. The shop will be open every weekend during November, featuring every sort of fun, clever, artistic and beautiful craft for the holiday season. Shop every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On the final weekend, it will also be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25.
Stop by and discover some of the wonderful creations of the Arts and Craft Group.
The PC User's group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 in the Senior Dining Room at the Pine Community Center. The meeting will focus on tips and techniques for using Windows XP. Also, members have requested help with downloading techniques, removing red eye from photos, blocking emails and message options in e-mail. Everyone is invited to these informative classes. First-time visitors are admitted free of charge. Repeaters are asked to pay $1 to help cover the cost of using the facilities and equipment.
The Old Time Fiddlers will play some foot-stomping, hand-clapping tunes at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center. Everyone is invited, and there is no charge for admittance. This is fun. Do come and join in or just enjoy the music.
The musicians donate their time for the enjoyment of everyone. Let them know you appreciate them by being there.
Tellabration is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 in the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center. The evening of story telling is part of an ancient, ongoing tradition, and it is an art. Come for a delightful evening of entertainment, education and tradition. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.
Stop by Sweet Charity Gift Shop for a wonderful selection of gifts for the holidays. All funds from the gift shop benefit children and families in need in our communities. And if you want to volunteer in a fun place, talk with Sharon Allen at ERA Realty, next door.
Shop locally for holiday gifts and decorations. Wonderful things are available in our own shops. Talented local artists produce gifts you will not find anywhere else. Unique country gifts and antiques are always treasured. We need to support our local businesses.
