A major control burn is planned for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 in Pine. The Pine-Strawberry Fire Department will begin burning on the vacant land just south of Pine on Highway 87.
The burn should take only an hour or two, but the smoke will have a major impact on highway traffic.
Many agencies will be involved: the Gila County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Transportation, Forest Service and Arizona State Lands Department.
The burn is part of the community's Fuels Reduction Program.
