James M. Barker and Bernita J. VanCamp were joined in wedded bliss Nov. 22, 1945 in Phoenix. Jim was drafted three weeks later and served in the U.S. Army for seven years.
After attending Bible College, he was pastor of churches in Cave Creek and Quartzite.
In 1964 the couple moved to Payson. Jim was pastor of First Baptist on Main Street until August of 1969. Since then, he has ministered in Yuma and Prescott, and Alaska.
The Barkers lived in Texas for 25 years before moving to Star Valley into the home they started building five years ago.
They have six children: Donna Mattox of Crooksville, Tenn.; Kathleen Barker of Eagar; Mark and Nancy Barker of Tucson; Tom and Luann Barker of Payson; Wendell Barker of Diamond Star; and Dee and Tony Hines of Phoenix. Jim and Bernita have 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
