Rim Country weekend warriors can get a jump-start on ridding themselves of those Thanksgiving feast calories by entering the Turkey Trot 5K walk and run.
The annual event, sponsored by the Town of Payson Parks and Recreation Department, will kick off at 10 a.m. Nov. 19 at Green Valley Park.
Preregistration wrapped up Nov. 11, but the P&R department will accept late sign-ups for $20. Registration opens about 7 a.m. on race day near the veterans memorial in GVP.
All entrants will receive souvenir T-shirts. Awards will be given to the winners of each age/sex division and for the best overall time.
Also, turkeys will be doled out to the overall male and female winners.
Last year, David Cluff (17:18) and Rachelle Jones (20:35) ran to Turkey Trot championships.
The 3.1-mile loop course begins near the northern edge of the GVP amphitheater and continues down Country Club Drive past Payson Golf Course. Near the Gila County Sanitary District, the course takes a 360-degree turn and returns down Country Club to near the original GVP start line.
Parks and Recreation Director Bill Schwind said he expects about 100 runners and walkers to enter.
