Gila County Judge Seeks Appeals Court Job


Gila County Superior Court Judge Peter J. Cahill of Globe is seeking a position on the Arizona Court of Appeals. He is currently one of five candidates who have applied for the job.

Judge Cahill is currently assigned to the Gila County Superior Court. He has been a resident of Gila County for 30 years and a judge for three years.

"The court of appeals is an important judicial position to make sure court decisions are correct," Cahill said. "It is the last appeal for almost all cases. I would enjoy working closely with colleagues to decide these cases."

The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments is asking for public comment on the five candidates applying for the position. The commission will meet in Tucson at the Hotel Arizona, 181 W. Washington, Ocotillo Room, starting at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 30. The meeting is open to the public. Citizens may only address the commission on that day and at that location.

Cahill said the commission will recommend three names to Gov. Napolitano on Nov. 30. She will make a final decision within a few weeks.
