After a five-year hiatus, the Christmas Lighting Contest is back.
Home and business owners are invited to string lights on their rooftops and decorate their yards for the holiday season and enter to win.
"It's exciting," said Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce President Tina Bruess. "This is a team effort by the chamber, Jan Parsons from APS, Richard Haddad at the Roundup and Fred Carpenter from the town. We decided to bring back the contest to promote community holiday spirit."
The contest is open to residents and businesses in the town of Payson, the Tonto Apache Reservation and Diamond Star (Star Valley).
"We are trying to keep this local and decided to include Diamond Star as a good-will gesture," Bruess said.
"The contest will be judged by one representative from each of the sponsoring organizations, and there are cash prizes for residences," Bruess said.
First- and second-place residential winners in the best overall category will receive $200 and $100 respectively. A $25 prize will be awarded in each of the following categories: Spectacular Lights, Religious Theme, Fun for Kids and Most Unique.
Applications will be printed in the Roundup. They may be turned in at any of the sponsor locations. The deadline to enter is Dec. 15, and winners will be announced in the Roundup Dec. 20.
