Two young people had to be airlifted to Valley hospitals Wednesday night after the all-terrain vehicle they were riding went over an embankment at the end of Granite Dells Road.
Lynda R. Stewart, 19, and Anthony Puskaric, 18, both of Payson, were injured at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, said Undersheriff Adam Shepherd of the Gila County Sheriff's Office of Payson.
"Both of them had been transported by the time our officers arrived," Shepherd said. However, witnesses said Puskaric had a head injury. Stewart had a back injury, said Rob Beery of the Payson Fire Department.
"They were not life-threatening injuries, according to the report," Shepherd said. "No alcohol was involved and no real cause of the accident has been established. It could have been speed or inattention. We don't know who was driving."
