I enjoyed my first fire of the season in my wood stove the other night, and it felt wonderful.
These days are just perfect. I would love these temperatures year-round. But we still need a little rain.
Everyone must be in hibernation mode around Pine and Strawberry. The kids will be back in school, and winter and the holiday season are just ahead. Something must be going on somewhere. Do let me know so I can write about it.
The computer group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the Senior Center at the Pine Community Center. The discussion will center on office tools such as spreadsheets and word processing programs. Nov. 15 will be the very last meeting of the computer group.
The Old Time Fiddlers will present their usual terrific and fun music at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center. Come enjoy the music and sing along, or bring your instrument and play. There is no charge and everyone is welcome.
Ann at the library tells me it is a little slow around there these days. They encourage people to come in and check out books for cold-weather reading. They have a wonderful selection of movies and books on tape. Also, there is a great book sale: buy one hardcover book for $1 and get a second one free. Paperbacks are 50 cents and include the buy-one-get-one free offer.
The library has a great selection of books -- enough to keep you reading all winter.
Tellabration, An Evening of Storytelling, is at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Cultural Hall. Tickets are $5. The Isabelle Hunt Memorial Library is sponsor of this year's Tellabration. Six wonderful storytellers will be on hand to entertain. Don Doyle, our very own storyteller, will be the host. Tickets are available at the library or at the door.
"Dinner before Theatre" adds a new dimension to the annual event. A reception with the storytellers is at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:30 in the senior dining room. The room will be transformed for gracious dining.
Tickets for the reception and dinner are $20 each, which includes your ticket for Tellabration. Tables for groups of six are available for $120. Tickets for the dinner must be purchased by Wednesday, Nov. 9. Dinner seating is limited. Stop by the library for your tickets and for more information.
The proceeds from Tellabration and the dinner will be used for children's programming. Don't miss out on this opportunity for a dinner out with friends and a visit with great storytellers.
If you have not already done so, have your chimneys cleaned and your wood- or gas-heating stove checked for the coming winter. Furnaces should also be made ready.
