The local Soroptimist club is sponsoring their financial awards, to be given out in 2006. Women's Opportunity Award is for a woman who is head of household and is attending or has been accepted into school.
The money, at least $2,000, can be spent as the recipient chooses. The award is designed to help her reach her educational goals so she may provide more for her family.
The second award, the Violet Richardson Award, is for a girl between the ages of 14 and 17 who is a volunteer in her community. This award is $1,000. Volunteerism and service to her community are the principles of Soroptimism, and the members believe citizens should become involved at an early age.
