Sharesse A. Von Strauss

Sharesse A. Von Strauss died Oct. 13 in Payson. She was born Sept. 24, 1955, in Macon, Ga.

Ms. Von Strauss had a master's degree in art history, representing artists and doing many large art appraisals throughout the United States. While traveling through Arizona on the way to California, she fell in love with the Mogollon Rim, and a year later (1995) moved to the Rim Country.

She soon became involved with the Northern Gila County Historical Society and Museum and became its first hired director. The newly-named Rim Country Museum made many improvements during her directorship, and the purchase of Risser Ruins and the opening of the Museum of Rim Country Archaeology took place during that time.

Over the years she lived in our community, she was also the program coordinator of the Main Street Redevelopment Committee, chairperson for the Payson Historic Preservation and Conservation Commission, vice president of the Museum Association of Arizona, and a director for the Rim Country Chapter of the Arizona Archaeological Society.

She had a great love for this area and the people of the Rim Country and gave of herself tirelessly through ideas, volunteering and fellowship.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Suzanne.

There will be no memorial service. Donations may be made to the Sharesse Von Strauss Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Arizona Archaeology Society at any Wells Fargo Bank.
