Stabbing Sends Payson Man To Valley Hospital

A Hispanic male was airlifted from Payson Regional Medical Center Friday night after coming in with stab wounds.

"At first, they thought he had gunshot wounds," said Commander Don Engler of the Payson Police Department. "It turned out he had been stabbed in some kind of altercation in the parking area in the 600 block of South Colcord."

Friends brought the victim to the hospital, Engler said, then he had to be flown out to Phoenix for emergency surgery. "The last we heard, he was in stable condition."

The PPD was called in at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.

"Because the victim was not fluent in English, it took us awhile to find out what happened," Engler said.

Apparently the victim and the suspect, Michael Reves, 18, Payson, had an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation, Engler said.

Reves was taken into custody near Christopher Point Circle in Payson around 2:30 a.m. and arrested for attempted second-degree homicide and aggravated assault, Engler said.

Reves is in custody in the Gila County Jail, Payson.

The case is still being investigated, Engler said.
