The Payson Community Kids' car, a red 1990 Honda Civic, was stolen Thursday or Friday evening from in front of the group's center at 300 W. Wade Lane, Payson.
"They are stealing from all of us," Payson Community Kids director Marcy Rogers said.
PCK works with children to prevent crimes, and Rogers hopes that children in the program will learn from the experience of being victims of theft and grow up knowing stealing is wrong.
"The car was the perfect size for me to reach into the back seat to pat the hand and comfort a crying child," Rogers said.
The Auto Theft Information Clearinghouse reported Honda Civics as the third most stolen vehicle in 2002. A total of 55,306 cars were stolen in Arizona in 2004, and 67 percent of those were recovered according to the Arizona Auto Theft Authority. Arizona has been the number one state in vehicle theft per capita, but recent reports indicate it has dropped to the No. 2 position.
Anyone with information about the theft of the Civic may contact the Payson Police Department, (928) 474-5177.
