Local singer/songwriter John Carpino will celebrate the release of his latest CD "Evolution" by hosting an acoustic benefit performance Friday evening, Nov. 4 at Fireside Espresso, 614 N. Beeline Highway. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. and the proceeds from the CD sales will go to benefit World Emergency Relief, a nonprofit Christian organization that helps battle childhood hunger worldwide.
"I wanted to write something ambitious and big, yet thought-provoking and meaningful," Carpino explained when describing the title cut of his latest CD, "Evolution."
"I lost track of the hours I put into recording that song -- my studio logbook ran out of pages," he said.
Carpino -- voted Payson's best musician/entertainer for 11 consecutive years -- recorded all the instruments and vocals himself for the title track at his home studio, with the exception of recruiting his daughter Jessalyn and her friend, Jen Sandoval, for children's vocals on the final chorus.
"They each sang it twice and then I doubled up the vocal tracks, so I have eight children singing at the end of the song -- it's quite effective," said Carpino. "It works well with the underlying theme of the album, which is -- ‘What kind of world are we leaving for our children and for future generations?'"
"Evolution" is available locally at Beeline Music and Payson Music Center as well as online at John's Web site: www.johncarpino.homestead.com.
