Lester W. Oltersdorf, 82, of Pine died Sept. 6, 2005 in Scottsdale. He was born Oct. 15, 1922 in Detroit, Mich.
Mr. Oltersdorf was a World War II veteran, and was an original witness of the flag-raising at Iwo Jima. He also was a boxer for the Marine Corps.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Oltersdorf was a member of the Ypsilanti, Mich., Fire Department for 12 years and was with the Rural Metro Fire Department in Scottsdale for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Oltersdorf of Pine; daughters, Kathy (Clark) Baker and Janine Bryant of Pine; son, Tim (Teresa) Oltersdorf of Ft. Worth, Texas;
brothers, Clayton of Texas, Fred and William of Michigan, Earl of Florida, Harold of Michigan and Charles of Arizona; sisters, Joan and Betty Jean of Michigan; grandchildren, Eric Oltersdorf of North Carolina, Kristin and Jimmy Bryant of Scottsdale, David (Jolie) Bryant of California, Cora (Clayton) Bullock of Texas, Tim and Lara Baker of Pine; and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Emma Bryant of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lottie Oltersdorf; brothers, Lawrence, Robert and James; and sisters, Jeanette and Clair.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church in Payson.
