New Horse Turns In Winning Speed

Amber Marshall is a teen on the move.

Former Payson High School student Amber Marshall won first place at a year-long gymkhana series held at the Globe fairgrounds.

Her family has relocated from Jake's Corner to the Tilting H Ranch near Young, where she's home-schooled and she's riding a new horse that has her scooting along to some impressive barrel racing times.

The horse, a 6-year-old bay paint she calls Smokey, helped Marshall finish first at a year-long gymkhana series held at the Globe Fairgrounds.

"Smokey is really doing well, he is running in the 18s (seconds)," Marshall said.

When entered in the pole bending events, Marshall opts to ride the quarterhorse AJ she's owned since she first began competing about six years ago.

"AJ is getting better, he's running in the 24s (seconds)," Marshall said. "With these two horses, it's been a fun year."

While competing on the gymkhana and barrel racing circuit, Marshall is sponsored by Gary Chitwood at Chapman Auto Center and Unlimited Outfitters.
