On Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m to noon, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located on Ponderosa Street and Aero Drive, will host a community "Hearts and Hands Humanitarian Day." The day will be devoted to collecting and making items to benefit those individuals of the Gulf Coast region impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

In particular, volunteers will be making much-needed hygiene kits, infant kits, children's clothing, school bags and much more.

Donation of slightly used clothing and other items for the hygiene kits, such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs and hand towels are needed.

For those unable to contribute goods, assistance is needed to assemble and package the relief items. A light brunch and day care for children up to age 8 will be available.
