There is a nip in the air that indicates that fall is not far away. I listened to the weather report this morning on the radio and the announcer reported that there is a good probability of frost above the Rim. Brrrr! It is time to get out those blankets and quilts from the cedar chest and look for those long johns that were put away in May. I have begun the task of putting all my summer clothing in one place to eventually put into storage containers. I am looking forward to seeing the leaves change colors in the village. Nature puts on her best show this time of year.
Tonto Village Fire District
The Tonto Village Fire Board will be meeting Saturday, Sept. 17, starting at 10 a.m. at the fire station. A report will be made concerning the volunteer firemen who attended the Arizona State Fire School this past weekend. All of the firemen passed all their tests with flying colors. We are extremely proud of all of them for their efforts, and especially to all of the newer volunteer firemen. The meeting is open to the public; come and support your firemen and applaud their fine efforts to ensure that you are protected in our village. The volunteers who attended were Gloria Alliger, Rick Prach, Nick Fitch, Roger Cassuto, Steve Low, Phon Sutton, Darrin Hopley, Tony Phillips, Chad Stluka, Dave Miller, Rick Washburn and Jay Wagner.
The Fire Sirens of the Tonto Village Fire District will meet Monday, Sept. 19 at the Tonto Village Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. to discuss the results of the Labor Day Bash. It is an open meeting and everyone who is interested can attend. We are always looking for people who would like to help our fire district.
The residents of Bear Flat wish to convey their condolences and prayers to Margaret and Al Natzel. Their granddaughter, Abby Rose, passed away suddenly a few weeks ago. We are all sorry for their loss.
The Nine-Ball Gals sponsored by the Double D Restaurant and Saloon played this past Tuesday evening in Tonto Village. Nancy Olson of Christopher Creek shot for first place. Betty Koutz and Patty Boeschling took second- and third-place spots.
Cliff Landrum shot for the top spot again this past Sunday afternoon at the Double D. Second- and third-place winners were Mike Bryan and Betty Koutz.
Congratulations to all the winners.
