Hayden Junior Pierson, 61, of Payson, died Sept. 22, 2005. He was born May 29, 1944 in Kansas City, Mo.
In 1962, Mr. Pierson enlisted in the United States Navy. He served eight years active duty, during which time he was stationed in Turkey, served on the USS Shangri-La and USS Forrestal CVA-59 and spent three years in Okinawa. His last tour of active duty was at the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. Mr. Pierson completed his 20 years of naval service with the Naval Security group at the Naval Reserve Center in Phoenix. He retired as chief petty officer in 1986. Mr. Pierson was a longtime employee of the electronics industry, spending his most recent years at Digital and Microchip Technologies. Mr. Pierson resided in Phoenix for 33 years before retiring to Payson. He was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and listening to the oldies.
He is survived by his wife Jackie; daughters, Sherri Pierson and Tanya Nelson; grandchildren Chelsea and Nick Pierson, and Lindsay and Megan Nelson; brother Bobby Pierson of Tyler, Texas; sisters Wanita Mayville of Phoenix, Twila Allison of Fredericktown, Ohio, and Melanie Rowan of Phoenix.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005 at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale, with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barrow Neurological Institute for brain tumor research, 350 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ, 85013. Arrangements by Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary.
