Payson Youth Football Teams Sweep Competition

Get out the brooms -- Payson youth football has polished off a clean sweep.

The tidy dusting occurred when the four Rim Country squads participating in Central Arizona Youth Football Association won their Sept. 24 games.

Payson Broncos running back Zach Anderson (28) scored on this run during the team's 34-6 win over the White Mountain Lightning.

The Payson Broncos shocked the White Mountain Minor Lightning 34-6 and the Buccaneers sank the White Mountain Minor Thunder 30-0. The Bears rolled past the White Mountain Mighty Might Thunder 42-18 and the Raiders dealt the Cottonwood Cardinals a 40-16 defeat.

Scoring for the Raiders were Cameron Geske, Jake Sleeper, Michael Shearer, Westin Gibson and Eldon Siverson.

With the win, the always-tough Raiders improved to 3-0.

In the past four seasons, the Raiders have lost just one game, that occurring in 2002.

Next up for the powerful Raiders is their arch rival Camp Verde Bulldogs. Kick off is at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 1.

Also on Oct. 1, the Payson Buccaneers take on the Payson Broncos at 9 a.m.

At 11 a.m., the Payson Bears and the Payson Cowboys clash.

All three CAYFA games will be played on the Rumsey Park south multipurpose field.
