Payson Humane Society is truly a beacon of hope for the homeless animals of the Rim Country. Some dogs and cats come to the shelter frightened, bewildered and unsocialized. The superb cadre of staff, volunteer dog walkers, dog trainers and cat cuddlers work with them until they regain their trust in humans.
Thanks to a very supportive community in terms of adoptions and donations, most of these animals get a second chance.
Please make the shelter's job a bit less daunting by spaying or neutering your pets.
The shelter has Web sites at http://www.petfinder.com and http://www.pets911.com which bring prospective adopters to Payson from as far away as California, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. Take a peek at some of the currently adoptable animals.
Mocha is a 2- to 3-year-old spayed female Chocolate Labrador Retriever. If you are a chocoholic, you are going to go bonkers over this Godiva girl. She has a medium-length coat with a healthy sheen, and her eyes are golden topaz. Mocha has a wonderful friendly personality, smooth as Belgian chocolate. She is a joy to walk on leash because she is easy going and well behaved. She loves to play ball and fetch sticks, and she is quite a swimmer. She may do best as the only dog in the family. If you like Labs, you will really appreciate this beautiful dog. Come let her give you a Hershey kiss!
T-Bone is a handsome 4-year-old neutered male Rottweiler mix. He is healthy and strong, housebroken and well-trained for walking on leash and riding in the car. He likes children and gets along famously with other dogs and cats. He is very protective of home and family and doesn't like strangers coming into his yard, especially if they wear uniforms. T-Bone would like to find a new home with a family who will exercise him and give him all the attention he craves. He is a great dog!
Sobie is a spunky 11-month-old spayed female Border Collie mix pup. She is adorable with her clean, white coat and black spots of all sizes. She is what we call the perfect size -- a loving armful of puppy dog, and, oh, does she ever soak up all the love you can give her. Sobie is a smart, attentive dog who already, at her young age, responds to the commands "sit," "lie down" and "stay." She loves other dogs and is ready to play and frolic with a happy family.
Bluebell is a picture-perfect 4-month-old spayed female Hound. She is an exceptionally beautiful girl, with red and blue ticking on her petite body. She is a quiet, gentle dog who is very loving and friendly. She already walks like a grown-up on leash, and she does so enjoy getting out to smell the sweet scent of spring. We think you will fall in love with this doll baby when you meet her in person.
Copper is a lovely 8-year-old spayed female long-haired Tortie cat. Her beautiful coat of many colors will need to be brushed regularly to keep her looking her best. Copper is quite the little talker, and lets you know when she needs something. She is very sweet and gentle and is looking for a kind family to take her in and protect her.
