It is raining in Tonto Village today and it is a welcome sight. The buds have started to make their appearance on the bushes and trees. The greenery will make the upcoming holy week extra special.

Bear Flat has measured .33 inches of moisture so far from this most recent storm. By the end of the storm, the rainfall will perhaps total as much as one-half inch.

Two very important meetings are scheduled this Saturday, April 8, 2006.

The first meeting will be a community meeting regarding a possible consolidation of the area's fire departments. The meeting is at 8:30 a.m. at the Tonto Village Chapel. Charlie Conover of Star Valley will present the advantages of a consolidation. Chief Jim Alliger will present the arguments against such a merger. Input from residents of all communities in the area is vital.

The Tonto Village Fire Board meeting will be held at the fire station, beginning at 10 a.m., immediately following the meeting at the chapel.

I spoke with John Diehl this week. He is the new manager of the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery. If you have read my column, you know that I love to fish, so I asked Diehl when the stocking would start. Well, it started this week. The stocking will be at Haigler Creek, East Verde, Christopher Creek and Tonto Creek.

Diehl held the assistant manager position at the Page Springs Fish Hatchery in the Verde Valley. He and his family have been in our area for about six months. He and his wife, Jere, have four daughters and two sons. Jere Diehl is a teacher and reading specialist. Welcome to the Rim Country.

Betty Koutz, Margaret Stasny and Ethel Cain swept the Christopher Creek women with a bit of skill and luck this past Tuesday evening at the Double D Restaurant, playing the nine-ball tournament.

Cliff Landrum did it again. He shot skillfully for first place in the Sunday afternoon eight-ball tournament Bo Douglas and Harvey Poyner placed second and third. Congratulations to all the winners.

This past Sunday afternoon, April 2, my husband and I were invited to join in the celebration of Charlie Clausen's 87th birthday along with many of his friends and neighbors in Tonto Village III. Charlie's wife Shirley put on a birthday bash complete with two birthday cakes. Everyone brought a side dish to make the event a special day for Charlie. We all wish Charlie many more years to enjoy his family and friends.

Eileen Kittock will celebrate her birthday on April 7. Eileen hails from Christopher Creek, but she loves to play dominoes, so she makes the trip to the Tonto Village Chapel every Wednesday afternoon to enjoy the competition and friendship. Connie Weldon will have another birthday on April 15. She is another avid dominoes player and joins the ladies as often as she can. Bob Manning of Tonto Village III will add another candle to his birthday cake on April 15 also. Happy Birthday to all of you.

Phil Davenport is now home from the hospital and he is happy to be back in his own home in Tonto Village III. With the help of his neighbors, Mike Preston, Chuck Huth and Buck Shill, a ramp was built on the house so that Davenport can better maneuver his wheelchair. He is eager to visit with his neighbors and friends. Stop by and say hello and wish him well.
