There is no rhyme or reason as to why some dogs get adopted immediately and others languish for months at our shelter. Sometimes it is like a beauty contest with the best looking getting the most attention. Lots of people's heads are turned by the litters of cute puppies they first see upon entering the dog kennels. As with many things, we often find that true beauty manifests itself on the inside. With this in mind we present some of our favorite adoptable dogs whose inner beauty more than makes up for what they may lack on the outside. And as adult dogs they are already trained by our volunteers to behave well.

BRIDGET

Bailey

Bridget is a very friendly 3-year-old spayed female pit bull mix. She has a short, white coat dappled with brown markings and lots of spots. Her ears are so funny -- they remind us of Spock. Bridget doesn't have a mean bone in her body and is great with children and other dogs. Her happily wagging tail lets you know she is a real sweetheart. When she wants something, she can steal your heart with her sad brown eyes. She will need a secure fenced yard and a family who is diligent about keeping gates closed, for she is an escape artist. She would love to find a home with people who are around home a lot and who include her in their activities so she won't have a reason to roam.

Brandi

Bailey is a loveable 6-year-old spayed female shepherd mix. She has a short, brown and tan easy-care coat and has been an outside dog, but gladly comes inside when invited. She doesn't mind it if you brush her, and even enjoys it. Her agreeable disposition makes it easy for her to get along with people and other dogs. She loves going for long walks on leash. Bailey gets a kick out of splashing around in cool water when it's hot outside. She has fun playing tag with butterflies. She is looking for a caring, permanent home for the rest of her days.

BRANDI

Brandi is a 3-year-old spayed female Walker hound mix. She is one of the most endearing characters at our shelter. Her brown eyes enchant your soul and her sweet demeanor makes her a favorite among shelter staff and volunteers. Brandi is very intelligent and knows commands and how to use a doggie door. She is housebroken and loves riding in the car. She is a funny girl who plays in the water, romps with other dogs, and rolls gleefully in the green grass. She needs to take thyroid medication.

Jake

JAKE

Jake is a 2-year-old neutered male Australian cattle dog mix. He is such a peach of a dog that everyone loves to take him for walks or to the dog park, where he plays with the other dogs till he drops. Jake's a quiet, well-behaved dog who doesn't bark much at all. He is so affectionate and tolerant, sweetly sitting next to you to get hugged.

Brody

He is so well behaved that it is fun to take him for walks at the park where he enjoys swimming with the ducks. He has a wonderful, friendly personality that sets you at ease when you first meet him. Brody is a personal favorite of this writer.
