Don Crowley was sworn in Saturday, April 15 as a member of the Gila County Community College Governing Board, District 1.
"Don Crowley is a highly qualified individual who appears to have strong support among Payson area residents and community leaders," said Gila County Superintendent of Schools, Linda O'Dell.
"I received at least 20 letters in support of his appointment to the community college governing board," she said.
Crowley came to his appointment with several goals for the future of the community college.
"I think the key thing is that we make progress -- not only towards serving all of Gila County but making sure that classes on the Payson campus are meeting the community's need," he said.
For him, that is the highest priority.
O'Dell has confidence in Crowley's ability to work constructively with the other four board members to bolster higher education opportunities for the diverse interests and needs of the Globe, San Carlos and Payson campuses.
Crowley is president of Arizona Rim Country Investment Management in Payson. He has been active in a variety of community activities in the Payson area, including Mogollon Health Alliance, Zane Grey Cabin Foundation, Citizens for Better Payson Government and WakeUpCall, an organization that has looked closely at GCC policies.
He has been vocal at numerous college board meeting calls to the public during and after the change of GCC management from Pima Community College to Eastern Arizona College in spring 2005.
Crowley was appointed by the superintendent to the position Dick Wolfe resigned from in December 2005.
The term for the governing board position expires in December 2006. Crowley will need to run for election in November if he wishes to continue serving on the board.
