Strawberry Festival Will Be Held In Pine This Year And Volunteers Are Needed

Suddenly the real estate market in Pine and Strawberry is alive and active. You hear about a house going on the market and the next thing, it is sold. It is nice to know that property values are going up along with our property taxes.

While we worry about the threat of fire and fuss about the taxes, new people are coming in and buying and paying more than we ever thought possible for these little cabins. But then, when we bought our cabins, the neighbors were saying, "Can you believe they paid that much?"

"Shining A Light in Pine: A Celebration of Dyslexic Artists" runs from May 11 through May 21. Many great activities will be held in conjunction with this event. Stop by Myra's Gallery for a complete schedule.

The Strawberry Festival will be in Pine this year at the Pine Community Center. Seems strange, but it is true. The dates are June 10 and 11. Vendors are signing up now. Anyone who might want to have a booth needs to contact John at the Chamber of Commerce in Payson, (928) 474-4515. This event is always a lot of fun.

But, guess what? We need lots of volunteers. You can volunteer for a couple of hours at a time and you can choose your area. Do you want to help set up, serve food, direct traffic, carry supplies or clean up? Please, call me at (928) 476-2239 or e-mail me. To make this a success, we need your help. It is fun and it is a great way to get to know your neighbors. I have volunteered to help organize a crew of volunteers. It sure would be helpful if you would give me a call.

It would be very sad to have the Strawberry Festival fade away. However, if there is not enough local interest to support it, it will be gone. So many events have gone -- the fair, the Apple Festival, the Fourth of July parade and the family picnic, to name a few. The goal is to have the Strawberry Festival back in Strawberry next year, but we need people to come forward and take an active role in the event.

Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, will take place at the Payson High School track beginning Friday night, June 2, and ending Saturday morning, June 3. There will be walkers and runners from each team on the track throughout the night. The teams are already formed, but you can purchase a luminaria to honor a friend or relative who has suffered from cancer.

The very meaningful luminaria ceremony will be Friday evening after dark. The luminaries are available at the Pine Library or you can buy them from any team member.

I need some new things to write about in this column. No one is getting new information to me. I hear about events after they have happened and I am sorry that no one let me know so I could write about them. Please, if you have some event coming up, do contact me with the information. That is what this column is all about.

Provide information for this column regarding upcoming events, activities and items of interest for residents and visitors of Pine and Strawberry. Call or fax (928) 476-2239 or e-mail
