Memorable Day For Trout Fisherman

Friday, July 28, was a banner day for Bill Snyder. The day started out as a normal fishing day for him but soon turned out to be a day for celebration. Bill was skilled and lucky enough to land a lunker of a trout. We almost lost it bringing it into shore with the help of a net, but the net had a gaping hole in it. We both held onto that trout with both hands to hold him down.

Bill had been working the spot for about three hours trying to lure the big one to bite. When we got it home, we weighed and measured it. It wasn't a record breaker at four pounds, six ounces and twenty-one inches, but it was a day to remember.

Bill Snyder of Tonto Village II was a very happy fisherman on Friday, July 29, when he landed this trout on the Tonto Creek. The trout measured 21 inches and weighed in at 4 pounds, 6 ounces.

We decided to bake it the same day -- after the picture taking, of course. It tasted wonderful, stuffed with lemon slices and red onion and trout seasoning. I had to use the biggest pan I had to bake it.

Congratulations, Bill.

World champ

Joseph Sowers, 17, of Phoenix, represented Arizona in the BMX bike racing world championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil, South America on Saturday, July 29, and won the title. Joseph is the grandson of Virginia Rankhorn and Stu Stewart of Tonto Village I. Congratulations to you, Joseph. I know that your grandparents and parents are very proud of you for your accomplishment.

Bear Flat

On Monday, Tonto Creek became very muddy and impassable when the water rose up to four feet. The stream looked like chocolate milk.

On a sad note, word was received that the longtime resident and pioneer of the area

Katherine Baxter passed away on July 30 in Mesa. Everyone in the area was saddened by the news. Katherine was well liked by her neighbors and she knew so much about the building up of Bear Flat. She will be missed. Sympathies and prayers go out to her family.

Junior Barr will be another year older on Aug. 11. Happy Birthday, Junior.

Tonto Village Chapel

A new Bible study class is beginning to form in the Village. The group would meet during the day, and focus on women and their relation to the Bible. Tentatively, the day is set for Tuesday. If you are interested in meeting to learn more about your role as it relates to the scriptures, call Rita Spalink at (928) 478-4282.

The Domino Divas are still having a grand time with Mexican Dominoes every Wednesday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. Come and join the gals for an afternoon of fun and games.
