Play of the week for the Payson Men's Golf Association was an "Orange Ball Team" formatted tournament.
For their counterparts in the PWGA, it was "Most Net Pars or Better."
In the PMGA fray contested Aug. 2 at Payson Golf Course, "each player was assigned golf holes based on handicaps," member Dick Ceyler said. "The score of the orange ball player must be counted in the total of three of the four of the team score."
Taking first place with a card of 182 was the foursome of Tim Ernst, Bill Cain, Tom Dahl and Bill McKenna.
With a 183, Troy Neal, Ed Flores, Doug Talbot and Tony LeGault were second.
The team of Kevin Kelley, Russ Morris, Don Kisseberth and Tom Eaglesham also scored a 183, but fell to third on a scorecard playoff.
Closest to the pin winners were John Waring (No. 2; 11 feet, 6 inches), Jack Greenshield (No. 5; 1 foot, 10 inches), Don Castleman (No. 8; 7 feet, 4 inches), Brandan Kelley (No. 17; 2 feet, 2 inches and Eaglesham (No. 14; 5 feet, 11 inches).
In the PWGA shootout held Aug. 1 at PGC, winners were determined by "gross scores minus handicap strokes as they fall per hole," member Joyce Goff said.
In the first flight, Mary Cain emerged victorious with 15 scores that were par or better. With 14, Shari Cody was second. Karen Peterson and Mary Jones tied for third with 12 scores each that were par or better.
Judy Neal posted 15 pars or better to win the second flight. Jones Karnes took home the silver medal with 14. Jan Burns, Kay Davis and Ethel Zakariason dead knotted for third with 12 each.
Zakariason also pocketed closest to the pin prize money on No. 8 where her tee shot rolled to within 8 feet, 11 inches of the flag.
On No. 8, Peterson was closest at 17 feet, 9 inches.
