Katherine Pearce Baxter died July 30, 2006 on her 94th birthday.
She was the last survivor of the eight children of Rachel and Zeb Pearce of Mesa.
She was educated as a teacher, graduating from Arizona State Teachers College (ASU) in 1933. Except when living in Virginia while her husband was at sea during World War II, and in Los Angeles when he played professional football there, she was a lifelong resident of Arizona.
Mrs. Baxter grew up in Mesa, raised her children in Phoenix, then lived in retirement east of Payson for the last 36 years.
She is survived by her children, Marianne, Michaela and Bill; daughter-in-law, Maryellen; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan and Jeremy, and many members of her extended family.
Her husband Bill passed in 1985 after 50 years of marriage.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Christ Church -- Lutheran at 3901 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix.
Donations may be sent in her memory to the ASU Foundation, P.O. Box 2260, Tempe, AZ 85280-2260. Donations will be used for the College of Nursing Scholarship Fund.
