The Payson Rodeo has been happening for 122 years and through all of that businesses and individuals in the area have supported the event.
Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Bruess said this year the rodeo's presenting sponsor is Bison Cove, a division of Bison Homes.
Gary Martinson owns the Fountain Hills-based Bison Homes, which is the largest developer in the White Mountains, according to Jim Hewitt, vice president of marketing for the company.
"This is the first time the company has been the rodeo's presenting sponsor," Hewitt said. "Our focus is there."
The company developed the Bison Ranch project in Overgaard and has now bought property in Payson -- to the north and east of the Town Hall complex -- for future residential development.
The family-owned company was started in North Dakota and came to Arizona in 1980. Since that time it has built more than 1,800 new homes and been involved in the development of more than a quarter million square feet of commercial projects.
The company will be bringing its signature Percheron horses to Payson for the rodeo, Hewitt said.
The six-horse team will be on exhibit, under a tent, at the parking lot of the Mazatzal Casino Friday, Aug. 18 through Sunday, Aug. 20 and available for photos.
The horses will be part of the opening ceremonies of each of the four rodeo performances and taking part in the parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.
The draft horses spend their summers at Bison Ranch and winter in the Valley, Hewitt said.
