Samuel F. Butler (1951-2006)


Samuel Fredrick Butler died Aug. 17, 2006. He was born May 18, 1951, the second child of Edward and Dora Butler at Fort Dix U.S. Army Hospital in Trenton, N.J.

He is survived by his wife, Yvette (dental hygienist) of Otis, Ore. His children Jason (Erika) Butler-Creach of Arizona, Amy Dawn (Scott) Taylor of Utah, Amanda (Latu) Fifita of Washington, Christopher Pearson of Arizona and Justin Butler of Oregon, his nine grandchildren Mosese, Grant, Malakai, Brielle, Ma'ake, Naomi, Ayden, Lesieli and Emmerson Paige. His mother Dora Wing of Lincoln City, Ore. and brothers Clyde, Ralph, Joe and sister, Jennie. Both Ralph and Jennie (Ray) LaHaye are of Payson. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Edward Butler.

Before settling in Payson at the age of 9, Sam traveled with his parents and lived in places like Hawaii, Taiwan, and various Air Force bases in the United States. During his senior year at Payson High School, he met his wife to be, Yvette. After graduation, Sam spent time as a mechanic and volunteer firefighter for the Payson Fire Department.

Ten years later, Sam and Yvette became reacquainted and they were married on Feb. 13, 1982. The first 17 years of their marriage revolved around his career as a Payson police officer, of which the last seven were focused on undercover work. After retiring from the police force, Sam and Yvette moved to Otis, Ore. in 2002.
