I'm a friend of Nikki Hall's brother. I only heard of her death a few days ago, and have learned most of what I know about the story through your paper's Web site.
I want to thank you for the sensitivity you've shown in your handling of the story of her murder. Events like this can be incredibly touchy and difficult to report. I understand that the feelings of the families can be very raw and vulnerable. My suspicion is that you get a great deal of criticism, even when you've done your best to handle such stories appropriately, and very little thanks.
Well, here's a kudo. In my opinion, you've shown humanity and restraint in your treatment of a very difficult story, and I greatly appreciate it.
