A road rage incident on the Beeline Highway in Payson Sunday evening resulted in two men being arrested for aggravated assault.

According to Payson police, a motorcycle driven by James Brunen, 54, of Scottsdale cut in front of a pickup truck driven by James Boren, 43, of Marana.

Payson Police Commander Don Engler said Boren became upset and followed Brunen to the Mobil gas station located near the Mazatzal Casino shortly after 5 p.m.

He said as Brunen got off his motorcycle, an altercation occurred with Boren, which seemed to settle down.

Minutes later, a second argument between the two men started.

Brunen produced a knife and Boren suffered a laceration to one of his hands.

After the two disengaged with each other, Boren went back to his truck and produced a handgun.

Engler said that is when police officers arrived to defuse the situation.

Boren unlawfully produced a weapon, Engler said, which is why he was arrested for aggravated assault.

Brunen was arrested for aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Engler said both of the men were booked into the Gila County Jail in Payson.
